If you only knew how many times I opened my fridge to be greeted by a smell that was not a gentle spring breeze! But where do these bad smells from the fridge come from, which seem to be playing hide-and-seek between our jam jars and our mature cheeses? It’s a little riddle that we’re going to solve together, with a bit of mischief and a pinch of know-how.
Imagine your fridge as a small village where each food has its own little house. Sometimes a small inhabitant, say a piece of cheese or a scrap of pie, forgets to close his door, and the whole street is perfumed with his smell. Add to that narrow alleys where the air struggles to circulate, and you get a mixture of aromas worthy of a spice market.
And then there are those moments in life, you know, when we don’t have time, and the big cleaning of the fridge is postponed… Once again. This is where our little invisible friends, bacteria and mold, decide to party, feasting on every forgotten crumb.
Together, we will chase these bad smells out of the fridge so that it becomes that haven of freshness that makes your taste buds sparkle.
