4 effective tips for removing maggots in your outdoor trash can

Boiling water: the deadly weapon

The first thing you need to do is empty your garbage completely. Then pour boiling water into it, enough to flood the bottom. This extreme heat quickly eliminates maggots. To remove them safely, pour the water into the sink while using a colander or filter to catch the residue.

To enhance the effect, add a few drops of dish soap to new hot water, then scrub the walls with a scrubbing brush. After cleaning, let the trash can dry in the fresh air, ideally in direct sunlight. Moisture is the best ally of these little creatures, so let’s eliminate it!

Salt: a discreet but formidable ally

If you don’t like how to handle hot water, there’s another simple trick you can choose from: salt. A generous layer at the bottom of the container is enough to dry out and eliminate the larvae. After a few hours, pick them up with a filter or shovel and you’re off to the garbage bag.
