I really had no idea!

The goal behind the free point
The free end of a tape measure is designed to compensate for its thickness. To measure an external dimension, such as the length of a table, the end is pushed against the edge of the object, and the movement compensates for its thickness. Conversely, to measure an internal dimension, such as the width of a window frame, the end is pulled against the object, and the movement again compensates for its thickness. This ensures accurate measurement in both cases.
The advantages of the Loose Tip function
Ensures consistent accuracy across different types of measurements
The free-spinning tip compensates for the thickness of the metal hook and provides accurate measurements, whether from the inside (e.g., between two walls) or the outside (e.g., along a board).
The user no longer needs to manually adjust or calculate discrepancies, thus reducing the risk of human error during measurements.
Increases versatility for different tasks
This tape measure is suitable for a variety of applications, such as woodworking, sewing, or DIY projects, whether the measurement starts from the edge or includes the hook.
Ideal for both professionals and DIY enthusiasts, it adapts to all skill levels and all sectors of activity.
Saves time and increases efficiency
Thanks to automatic hook movement detection, users can take measurements quickly, without having to stop to check or correct errors. This feature
speeds up workflows, especially for repetitive tasks, as it ensures reliability with minimal effort.
