Learning a language, starting to sew or finally understanding how the stock market works (simplified of course): curiosity is everything! The key is to cultivate the inner desire to always know a little more. An app, a podcast, an explainer video on YouTube … Today, everything is available to you to learn and train your brain at your own pace, even between two metro stations.
Solving puzzles, a game that is anything but trivial
Puzzles aren’t just for board game nights. They promote logic, concentration and critical thinking. Looking for an example to challenge yourself? Here’s one that will make you think:
A man buys a horse for 60 euros, sells it for 70 euros, buys it back for 80 euros and then sells it for 90 euros. How much did he earn in the end?
Think twice before reading the solution below!
The solution: a not so obvious calculation …
On the first sale, he makes a profit of €10 (70 – 60).
When buying back the horse for €80, he uses this money and adds an additional €70 out of his own pocket.
On the second sale, he sells it for €90 and makes €10 again (90 – 80).
Final result: €10 + €10 = €20 total profit.
Astonishing? This type of exercise sharpens your mind and forces you to think beyond your usual reflexes. And it is precisely this type of mental gymnastics that makes the difference in the long run!
