Don’t worry if yours is discreet or absent: as long as it doesn’t suddenly change shape or color, it is usually not serious.
Changing lunulae: when should you pay attention to them?
Sometimes the appearance of the lunula changes. Becomes bigger, fades away, changes hue… This phenomenon, although uncommon, can sometimes indicate an imbalance in the body.
If the lunula becomes very large, covering more than a third of the nail over several fingers, it could be related to an overactive thyroid or slightly elevated blood pressure. It is better to consult a health professional to assess whether additional tests are necessary.
A lunulae that
gradually fades, especially on several fingers, can be related to persistent fatigue, iron deficiency or vitamin B12. While not alarming, this sign deserves attention if you often feel exhausted.
