Doctor warns people who drink coffee in the morning on an empty stomach

Do you like to start your day with a hot cup of coffee? You are not alone. Still, this morning habit may not be as beneficial as we think. Dr. Masarat Jilani warns of the effects on your digestive system and energy levels. Should You Check Your Caffeinated Ritual?
Coffee on an empty stomach: boost or trap for the stomach?

Coffee is known for its stimulating effects, but when consumed on an empty stomach, it can irritate the stomach. One of the main problems is the increase in stomach acid content. In fact, drinking coffee first thing in the morning stimulates the production of hydrochloric acid, which can lead to heartburn and promote gastroesophageal reflux in the long term.

Think of your stomach as a delicate surface: pour an acidic liquid into it without protection, you risk damaging it. This is exactly what happens to your digestive lining when it is exposed to coffee without being protected from its acidity by food.

When should you drink your coffee to avoid any inconvenience?

If the thought of giving up your morning coffee is hard for you, don’t panic. It is not a question of eliminating them, but of integrating them more intelligently.

Wait about an hour after waking up: This will allow your natural cortisol (the energy hormone) levels to rise naturally without affecting caffeine.
Eat before drinking coffee: A balanced breakfast rich in protein and fiber (such as an egg and a slice of wholemeal bread) protects the stomach and limits irritation.
Spread out caffeine consumption: Drinking coffee too early will result in an energy boost, followed by a sharp drop. By moving it slightly, you will maintain more stable alertness throughout the day.
